Haiku's First Employee

This blog is supposed to accompany my Haiku development efforts while being employed by the non-profit organisation behind the Haiku operating system, Haiku Inc.

Thanks to the donations you made to Haiku Inc., I will work full time until the end of november - that means 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. I'm not getting rich by doing this, but it should be enough to pay my bills. I don't even get more money if you would donate more - it would just make such an event more likely to happen again. Thanks for making this happening, anyway.

I intend to regularly update this blog during the next few weeks to give you an overview over what I am currently working on, and how I progress doing it.

This is great news. I think it will encourage donations as the contributors have one more way to see how their donations are directly benefiting the Haiku project.

Axel, what kind of steady monthly influx of donations would be required to retain your services for a longer period of time? Are you available for a longer period of time if the Haiku community decided to pitch in and make it worth your while?

Doesn't German law say that maximum work day is 8 or 10 hours? Does that mean you would have to cut back your development time :-)

I know those Germans get more Annual Leave than any other country ;) but I think they're smart for doing that.

It's good to see the community pulling together to help make Haiku a reality.

Now off to the basement Axel ;)

You've been one of the best, well-known programmers since OpenBeOS was started. It does my BeOS-lovin' heart proud to see that you're worthy of being *paid* to continue working towards Haiku's initial release! Keep up the good work and may a 1st release be not much longer in coming!

Congratulations on the new job. It reminds me of being on sabbatical a few years ago, having fun doing BeOS coding. I wouldn't think of it as a job, it is more of a vacation, where you happen to get paid too! So have fun while it lasts, I'll look on enviously, while plotting another sabbatical.
